As Washington, DC, descended into chaos and violence Wednesday when pro-Trump rioters lead a historic breach of the Capitol building, Republican Sen. Mitt Romney yelled at his Republican colleagues, “This is what you’ve gotten,” The New York Times reported.
A handful of Republicans have supported President Donald Trump’s conspiracy that the 2020 presidential election was fraudulent, a claim that has no basis in fact or reality.
That delusion is what prompted a flood Trump die-hards to contest Electoral College votes from states that Biden won.
The rioters had attended a “March for Trump” rally to protest the certification on Wednesday.
The breach forced the House and Senate to abruptly go into recess and for lawmakers, Capitol Hill staffers, and reporters to shelter-in-place before being evacuated.
Security officers also removed Vice President Mike Pence from the building.
